Sunday morning at Cinema Fulgor in Rimini, sala Federico, named after Federico Fellini, the visionary director of 8½ and La Dolce Vita, who was born in this very city. The Fulgor is where Fellini watched his first films as a child, and the cinema he kept returning to throughout his life and work. After five years of restoration, it was given back to Rimini in all its 1930s Hollywood glory. The sunday matinee here comes with a coffee and a croissant included in the ticket.
The film is Persepolis, an Iranian animation movie. As she does for every single screening, the manager gives a short intro speech. She says the film is about the struggles of a young Iranian woman, and notes how the current war is not likely to change anything about the situation shown in the film, and that perhaps politicians would know this if they went to the cinema a bit more.
